April and Kent
When I found out April and Kent would be expecting a baby, I was more than simply excited. I knew they had been through a rough journey getting here and were overjoyed to get to bring a baby into the world. I immediately told April I would be doing her maternity and newborn photo sessions – she had no choice. And being one of my best friends, she happily obliged. Haha! Fast forward to the maternity photo session date, and the weather was lovely in Houston just a couple weeks after a hard freeze. But it was not too hot and not too chilly with a little bit of breeze. The photos turned out beautifully with lovely light to shine right on the couple and growing baby bump! April wanted traditional outdoor maternity photos with a few cute props like tiny baby shoes and a sonogram picture. She chose a gorgeous long and flowy burgundy red maternity dress from my client closet. We were able to go to a couple different spots at the same location to get a variety of looks to show off her baby bump and evoke the excitement she was feeling for this baby.
The burgundy/red dress she chose really pops in the post-freeze backdrop mother nature provided us just a few weeks before, and April looks stunning. I always make sure to get several different angles to help moms remember this time, have plenty of option to choose from, and see how beautiful their changing body really is.
And don’t forget Dad! Kent was hilarious during the session and helped bring out natural smiles from all of us. He is going to be a terrific father and partner and will take excellent care of his girls.
We also took photos on a really cool bridge nearby. I love how the leading lines bring your focus to the couple and especially that baby belly. This is when we added in the few little memorabilia pieces that they wanted to include to help make the images extra special. Aren’t they so cute?
April wanted to replicate a similar image to one I had done a few years ago during an indoor maternity photo session. It was a focus on just the baby bump in casual clothes sitting crisscross-applesauce. This bridge was perfect for that. We got some close ups of just her baby bump, too!
The fully customized maternity photo session inside the loop in Houston was super fun and produced images that both parents to be love. I cannot wait to meet their baby girl and take their new family photos together. Be on the lookout in a couple of months for the images from their newborn photo experience.
